Sallie Meshell is the President of Destiny by Design, a speaking and coaching business, which specializes in creating balance while building a successful 6-figure income. Sallie works with sales leaders, entrepreneurs and corporate executives who want to create results in less time.

Sallie works with clients one-on-one and conducts presentations and workshops nationally and internationally on direct sales strategies that improve the bottom line. Sallie speaks from experience, not theory. She draws from her 20+ years of direct selling experience, in addition to her corporate experience in sales, sales training, customer service and management.

Sallie earned a BA from Louisiana State University, is President of the DSWA-Shreveport chapter, is a credentialed Direct Selling Coach and recently co-authored, Direct Selling Power – Expert Advice to Accelerate Your Business.

My Mess

In 1992, my husband left me shortly after the birth of my child. With no way to make ends meet on one salary (and no child support), I moved back to my hometown to gain some stability. I secured a job in middle management and slowly put one foot in front of the other, until the end of the year when middle management was eliminated from the company structure. I found another job and worked my way up again only to be laid off, yet again ~ this time a week before Christmas. Not being a great time of year to gain employment, I vaguely remembered attending a “party” a year earlier and thought I may be able to bring in some money while I was looking for my next career.

I quickly set up 2 shows (the extent of the people I knew in town) and luckily created enough income to cover my rent & utilities. Another month went by while I continued to job hunt. I booked 8 parties off my first show, so I felt confident that I would be able to cover my bills again. At the end of the month, while reviewing some paperwork, I was shocked to realize that I was making great money from these parties. Oddly, I had barely “worked” at this business ~ it was truly only an afterthought, necessary only to get me through this transition. As I reviewed the numbers, I thought: “I wonder what would happen if I actually tried?”

That was the day everything changed. I went on to become a Top Seller & Recruiter in my company. I broke numerous company records and was known for my leadership development. And……I never went back to corporate America again!

I was a walking billboard for my business – the epitome of a rags-to-riches story! I went from living paycheck to paycheck….to being able to have a new luxury car, put my child in private school, take fabulous family vacations and my proudest accomplishment……putting 20% cash down on my first home. ALL BY MYSELF!

This incredible change in my lifestyle was what enabled me to create such great teams and leaders. I totally believed in this profession and wanted to share it with everyone! I wanted to help all women who found themselves in this same predicament.

Not only did this business afford me great luxuries, but the greatest of all was the ability to have “time” with my child. I wanted to experience all his “firsts” with him. Arriving at the daycare at the end of the day to hear his teacher tell me about some new, cute thing he did was very disheartening. I didn’t want to hear this second-hand. I wanted to be the one participating in his life, teaching him new things and experiencing his “firsts”!

All grown up today, I attribute much of the closeness we share to the time freedom I enjoyed with my business. We’ve had a fantastic life – all provided by an opportunity I never even considered a valid profession!

My Message

Why am I telling you this story? I want you to see yourself and your circumstances somewhere in this story. I want you to relate to it and realize that you can change your life, too! At the onset of this adventure, I never comprehended the “sky’s the limit” opportunity I had in front of me. I didn’t see it until much later because in the beginning all I could focus on was survival. Does this sound familiar?
